Pinawa Dam Provincial Park

Pinawa Dam Provincial Park is located north of Pinawa on Hwy 520. The Pinawa Channel built to divert water from the Winnipeg River through the old Pinawa Dam it was the first year round hydroelectric generating station. It closed in 1951. A great area to learn about Manitoba’s heritage and explore the remains of the old dam. Picnic areas are available along with washrooms. An interpretive trail is great for a family hike. Groups often canoe or kayak from the diversion dam in Pinawa at the end of Hwy 211 to the park. It takes about 3 hours to traverse. The channel is 29 km in length. Manitoba park pass required.
